Society constantly tells us that being a mom doesn’t have to define us and, for the longest time, I tried to believe it. Trying to find the me that wasn’t defined by motherhood. I thought I had lost her, but she is is still here. I am still me, but yes, my definition has changed. Being a mom defines me and I am completely okay with that! We need a little more truth in parenting.
What does being a mom mean to me?
Being a mom is something I never expected to be. Becoming a mom is something I didn’t realize that I needed. Becoming a mom is the thing that has changed me more than any other moment in my life. Being a mom defines me, because it is the most important thing that I will ever do with this part of my life.
Parenting means that I have been given the opportunity to love, cherish, provide for and raise another human other than myself. I means that I have been given the chance to bring up and raise the future of our society. Parenting means that I have been given the most important, best and hardest job that I have ever had in my ENTIRE fucking life.
Yes, Being A Mom Defines Me
I said it, and I meant it, but it doesn’t mean that it is the only thing I have to be. There are so many different things that can be included in that definition and just because I am a mom, doesn’t mean that I cannot enjoy things that are meant for a different part of me. In fact, enjoying those things only makes me a better mother.
What are the qualities of a good mother?
There are so many different qualities in parents that are good. I think that the best quality that any parent should have is LOVE. We love our children. We love them more fiercely than we even love ourselves! Mother, father, any parent only needs the quality of love.
As parents, we need to spend time loving ourselves as well. Loving ourselves only allows us to give even more love to our kids and is important for our own mental health. Remember, we cannot fill the cups of others, if our own cup is bone dry.
